It’s that time of year when we get rid of the cold weather in exchange for warmer weather and sunny days. This is also a time to re-start your life by spring cleaning, packing away winter clothes and preparing our homes and ourselves for a great spring.  Along with it comes rain, unpredictable days and eventually spring flower blooms.  Getting your home ready can be fun and easy. Involve your family members to help out with packing winter clothes and make this a time to donate to your favorite charity. Dust away the cobwebs and open the windows for some fresh air.  Take your time to clean and organize by doing it in weekend time frames.

It’s important to keep your blood sugar controlled, because when too much sugar stays in your blood for a long time, it can damage blood vessels and nerves.

Much of the food we eat is turned into sugar in the blood for our bodies to use for energy. A hormone produced by the pancreas called insulin helps sugar in our blood get into the cells of our bodies. If your body doesn’t make enough insulin or if the insulin doesn’t work the way it should, blood sugar can’t get into your cells and instead stays in your blood, raising your blood sugar level.

Management of your type 2 diabetes includes:

  • Using your medicines exactly as your doctor prescribes
  • Making smart food choices
  • Being physically active

All 3 of these steps contribute to blood sugar management and therefore the management of your type 2 diabetes. Managing your type 2 diabetes is a goal whose importance is hard to exaggerate.

In Service Class

Here at the Progressive Home Care Agency we host a monthly in service class for our caregivers.

Our facilitator is Sondra Uzzell an RN on our staff. She teaches, inspires, informs our caregivers on important information on health topics and concerns.

At the end of the class Ms. Uzzell gives a test to improve the skills of the caregivers.  Through verbal participation the students and facilitator resolve issues to improve their skills as Home Health Aides.
